Role of Environmental Contractors Integral to Successful Federal Projects
MARCOR Remediation Exhibiting at Gathering of Military Engineers
3/11/2003–San Leandro, CA–As our nation's engineers address new infrastructure, security, and environmental challenges, environmental contractors like MARCOR Remediation, Inc. are providing the skilled labor, equipment, and technologies needed on successful federal projects. At the upcoming regional conference of the Society of American Military Engineers in Las Vegas March 19-21, MARCOR Remediation's exhibit # 215 features the environmental services, specialized tools and devices, and HAZMAT labor force that design and consulting firms demand.
Among the many government projects undertaken by MARCOR Remediation on behalf of consultants are asbestos cleanup at the Libby, MT, Superfund site; installation of a leachate collection system and treatment plant at Robins AFB; and World Trade Center forensic recovery at Fresh Kills Landfill. "We've gained our reputation as prime contractors, as well as teaming partners and subcontractors, on government environmental projects because our extensive experience with engineering and consulting firms translates into seamless job performance," said Blaine Frost, regional manager of MARCOR's San Leandro office. "You could say that MARCOR is the technical brawn behind the engineering and consulting firms' brains."
According to Frost, consultants on government projects most often prefer environmental contractors with a proprietary, experienced labor force rather than labor from an outsourcing company. "That way, the professionalism of the labor force is proven," he explained. Likewise, a company like MARCOR, which owns its own fleet of highly specialized heavy equipment, handled by HAZWOPER- and AHERA-trained equipment operators, can give clients the knowledge that the job is being done in the safest, most cost-effective manner possible.
In addition to showcasing its services, equipment, and skilled personnel, MARCOR also features its patented Pneumatic Separation Unit (PSU), a device which removes bullet fragments from soil on small arms ranges which have become contaminated by dangerous concentrations of lead. It is named in the EPA's Best Management Practices document for outdoor firing ranges.
The PSU quickly separates the fragments from soil, rocks, and other matter to a clarity of well over 90% -- pure enough to be accepted by a smelter for processing, recycling, and revenue return to the user. Before the invention of the PSU, bullets were separated by either a very labor-intensive method which involved sorting by hand, or by another method (i.e. soil washing) that produced a hazardous waste stream and added significant cost.
MARCOR Remediation, Inc., an environmental contracting company founded in 1980 headquartered in Hunt Valley, MD, performs a full range of services, which include industrial cleaning, asbestos and lead hazard abatement, mold remediation, building decontamination, plant/process decommissioning and demolition, soil and groundwater remediation, emergency spill response, and storage tank management. Each of the company's 15 offices is staffed with the necessary mix of senior technical management, regulatory compliance experts, and experienced HAZMAT labor force.
