Demolition and Environmental Remediation Veteran Heads MARCOR's Atlanta Office

3/2/2007–Atlanta, GA–Tim Barker, a veteran of the demolition and environmental remediation industries with strong ties to the Atlanta metro area, has taken the reins of the Atlanta office of MARCOR Remediation, Inc., one of the nation’s leading environmental service contractors.
Among the Atlanta-area projects that Barker has managed during his career was the decontamination and dismantlement (D&D) of a Lockheed Martin Marietta facility involved in the production of the F-22 Raptor fighter jet. Other local projects have included the remediation and D&D at a former major energy provider in Rome, GA; the selective D&D of Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta; and the conversion of a parking structure to an office building. He also was closely involved with site clearing in preparation for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Barker's relationship with MARCOR did not start in 2007. In the past, his company worked in partnership with MARCOR on the demolition and remediation of the WSB-TV building in Atlanta. The project required skilled crane work to safely remove six, 28-foot-tall historic fluted columns at the facility, which were to be preserved for reuse.
Before coming to MARCOR Remediation, Barker served as a consultant to the environmental dismantlement and demolition industries, with an emphasis on radiological waste reduction. He was founder and president of AMC Demolition Specialists in Atlanta. Prior to that, he held the position of regional manager for DEMCO (Dismantlement and Environmental Management Co.), also in Atlanta. He started in Atlanta as senior vice president for Hudgins & Company, a well-known Atlanta demolition firm. He began his career as a project manager for WMX Companies, handling demolition and remediation work.
Barker served on the Board of Directors of the National Demolition Association and on its environmental affairs, public relations, insurance, and trade publications committees. He has authored articles that have appeared in Engineering News-Record and Demolition magazines. He attended San Diego State University and studied civil engineering at Georgia Tech. He can be reached at the MARCOR office at 800-818-3114.
Barker and his family are longtime residents of Atlanta and are active in the community.
