MARCOR Communication Director Earns Doctorate
Only Fourth Person to Earn Doctorate in Communications Design
6/10/2003–Hunt Valley, MD–Joan L. Blazucki, director of corporate communication for MARCOR Remediation, one of the nation’s leading environmental contracting companies, is the fourth person in the U.S. to receive a doctorate degree in communications design. She was awarded the degree by the University of Baltimore.

A doctorate in communications design encompasses the study and integration of writing, graphics, digital technology, information architecture, business development, and the digital marketplace. The degree required the acquisition of 48 credits beyond a master’s degree, a written and oral qualifying exam at the mid-way point, and a final dissertation/project/presentation. This program of study differs from other doctoral programs in that it is highly practical, especially for content providers in today’s digital economy.
Blazucki previously earned both her master’s degree in publications design and her bachelor of science degree in corporate communication, summa cum laude, from the University of Baltimore. She was elected to Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges and is a member of Alpha Chi, the academic honor society.
She has also been awarded scholarships from numerous organizations, including the International Television Association, the Society of Military Engineers, and the National Association of Demolition Contractors.
Blazucki is a resident of Monkton, MD.
