Collection & Containment

MARCOR provides cost-effective, innovative collection and containment systems for environmental remediation projects.

Case Studies

Our years of experience with groundwater and soil enable us to offer proven systems for in-situ collection and containment. Collection involves construction of a control system to retrieve contaminants from groundwater, while containment involves construction of in-situ, low-permeability barriers to intercept and/or impede the flow of underground fluids.

These methods include groundwater pump-and-treat, soil vapor extraction, slurry wall/vertical geo-membrane lining, capping, and other, specialized applications.

Collection

Whether used alone or in combination with other methods, collection systems are often necessary to remove contaminants. Contaminant and leachate collection systems are particularly effective in situations where contaminants are soluble in or transported with the groundwater. These groundwater contaminants are typically petrochemicals, pesticides, solvents, fuels, or other hazardous chemicals. Collection methods depend upon type of contaminant, plume characteristics, and the direction of transport.

Containment

Vertical or horizontal containment barriers are often necessary to impede contaminant transport, and are especially critical where contaminants are soluble in or transported by the groundwater. They can be as simple as a single vertical containment wall surrounding a contaminated area or as complex as a vertical wall combined with a horizontal barrier at an appropriate depth to provide complete, below-ground containment. Depending upon the type of contaminant, topography, soil conditions, and proximity to site structures or activities, a single method or combined methods may be employed. These may include soil-bentonite slurry walls, cement-bentonite slurry walls, liners, or other applications. They may also be used in combination with other remediation systems.
